Who we are
Resolve Skillworks (Pty) Ltd, registration number 1999/015833/07, trading as Opposite Lock, of RSC Building, 30 Industry Road, Clayville, Olifantsfontein, 1666.
We are the responsible party for the personal information described here, which means we decide why it is collected and what happens to it.
Our Information Officer is Daryl van Zeil, reachable at info@oppositelock.co.za.
What this notice covers
The details you give us through our website tools: the Learn Hub, the Tyre Pressure Planner, Power Check and Build My Rig. It does not cover a purchase made at a fitment centre, because those are separately owned businesses with their own notices.
What we collect, and when
You can use every one of our calculators without giving us anything. We only collect details at the point where you ask us to email you something, or to have a fitment centre contact you.
At that point we collect your first name, your email address and your province or area.
Alongside it we store the answers you gave the calculator — your vehicle's baseline tyre pressures, the surface you chose, your fridge and battery figures, and so on — so that the plan we send you is the plan you actually built.
We also record technical information that arrives on its own: a randomly generated session identifier, and the campaign tags on the link you arrived through if there were any. Neither identifies you by name.
Why we collect it
Three purposes, and nothing else.
- To send you the plan, result or checklist you asked for.
- Where you have asked to be quoted, to pass your enquiry to an independently owned Opposite Lock fitment centre near you.
- Where you have separately ticked the optional box, to send you Opposite Lock news and offers by email.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.
Giving us your details is voluntary
You are not required to give us anything. The calculators work fully without it, and you can save or print your result instead. If you choose not to give us your details, the only consequence is that we cannot email you the result or have anyone contact you about it.
Who we share it with
Independently owned fitment centres. We do not pass your details on automatically. If you have asked to be quoted, or if answering your enquiry needs someone who can see your vehicle, we check with you and then send it to a fitment centre in your area. These are independently owned businesses, not branches of Opposite Lock. Once your details reach them they handle them under their own privacy practices, and any question about what they hold should go to them directly.
Service providers who process on our behalf. We use third-party services to store the data, move it between our systems and send email. They act on our instructions and may not use your details for their own purposes. They are listed in the next section.
We will also disclose personal information where the law requires it.
Where your details are stored
Our systems are not hosted in South Africa. POPIA requires us to tell you this plainly.
| What it does | Where the data sits |
|---|---|
| Our database, which stores calculator results and lead records | United Kingdom |
| Our automation service, which moves records between our systems | European Union |
| Our CRM, which holds the enquiry while we deal with it | United States |
| Our email service, which sends the emails you asked for | United States |
Each of these operates under data protection terms that we consider to provide protection substantially similar to POPIA. By giving us your details you agree to them being transferred and stored in these countries.
How long we keep it
We keep your details for 24 months from your last interaction with us, after which we delete them or strip them of anything that identifies you. If you unsubscribe from marketing we keep a minimal record of that so we do not email you again by mistake.
Your rights
You may, at any time and free of charge:
- Ask what we hold about you, and ask for a copy.
- Ask us to correct anything that is wrong or out of date.
- Ask us to delete it, where we have no lawful reason to keep it.
- Withdraw your consent. This does not undo anything we did lawfully before you withdrew it.
- Object to us using your details for direct marketing. Every marketing email also carries a one-click unsubscribe.
Write to info@oppositelock.co.za and we will respond within a reasonable period. We may need to confirm who you are first, which protects you rather than us.
Analytics and tracking
We do not run advertising trackers, marketing pixels or third-party analytics on this site.
Our hosting platform records basic anonymous traffic statistics — page views, roughly where visitors came from, and which pages get read. It does not identify you, we cannot connect it to your name or email address, and we do not use it to build a profile of you.
Security
We hold your details on access-controlled systems, and our calculators are built so they can write a record but cannot read anyone else's back. No system is perfect, and if a breach affects your personal information we will notify you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.
If you are not happy with how we handled it
Tell us first, because most of it is fixable. If you are still not satisfied you may complain to the Information Regulator.
